We all deserve a break this year, that’s a given. After seeing those same four walls day-in, day-out, it’s no wonder that many of us are seeking tranquillity and adventure on different turfs. Whether that’s camping with the kids and the dog in the Lakes or grabbing two quiet nights away with your other half near the coast, summer is the optimal time for creating family memories.
When does this year’s summer holidays start?
The schools close for summer on Friday, July 26th, with the new term beginning on Wednesday, September 1st. This covers all schools in England and Wales, meaning there are just less than 6 weeks of school holidays to pack the car and the family away for a few days!
Discussions have been had among government officials about shortening the school recess period to make up for lost time suffered during the pandemic. However long the holidays are, there’s a guaranteed boom in tourist hotspots and holiday destinations as thousands of Brits flock to their favourite domestic destinations.
In this post, we’ll explain how to avoid the crowds and beat the bustle, so you and your family can enjoy eternal peace and quiet – not just in the holidays!
Which locations are looking to be busiest?
With anxieties surrounding foreign travel still relatively high, experts are predicting a boom in domestic holidays during these summer months. Wherever you go this summer, crowds are expected with the below destinations looking to be the busiest:

Just below on the list of top destinations this year are Devon and the Scottish Highlands, with 43% of hopeful holidaymakers hoping to visit the regions this summer.
Last but not least this year is the Lake District, with its sweeping views, vast terrains and plenty of outdoor adrenaline-inducing activities to keep families busy.
Where are the best places to visit in the summer holidays?
