Five 2018 Christmas Markets in North Wales

As soon as November comes around, Halloween is long forgotten, and the focus for many is on Christmas. Towns are decked out with Christmas lights, shop windows get festive, and Christmas markets start popping up all over the country, with the smell of mulled wine in the air.

Llandudno Christmas Fayre

In mid-November, the top Welsh holiday resort of Llandudno hosts the biggest Christmas market in North Wales, with 165 stalls lining Augusta Street, Madoc Street and Trinity Square Street. There will be local food and drink to feast on, handmade gifts and crafts to purchase, along with some art demonstrations and a Santa’s Grotto for younger children. The World Bara Brith Championships will also be held – a contest to find Wales’ champion baker of the nation’s favourite cake.

When is the Llandudno Christmas Fayre? Thursday 15th November to Sunday 18th November

Do I need a ticket? Yes, tickets can be purchased on the day at the three entrances for £4.50, with under 16s for free.

Portmeirion Food and Craft Fair

The stunning Italianate village on the outskirts of Snowdonia opens its doors to visitors for three days of Welsh merriment and wonder. Portmeirion hosts a variety of exhibitors who specialise in local produce and crafts. You can wander the streets which will have over 100 stalls tempting to treat yourself and loved ones to handmade gifts, and there will also be a Christmas Grotto, cooking demonstrations, a giant gingerbread village, fun run for kids and musical entertainment.

When is the Portmeirion Food and Craft Fair? Friday 30th November to Sunday 2nd December.

Do I need a ticket? Yes, entry tickets are £7.00 per person, with children 15 and under free. An additional cost for the grotto is £3.00 per child.

Conwy’s Winterfest

Conwy’s Winterfest is sure to get you into the festive spirit! The event kicks off with a grand parade led by the town’s jester and armoured knights carrying blazing torches! The Winterfest is one of the town’s most popular events, with shops and cafes staying open into the evening, and there will be some stalls selling roasted chestnuts and other festive treats.

When is the Conwy Winterfest? Saturday 8th December, 4pm to 7pm.

Do I need tickets? No, the event is free to attend.

Wrexham Victorian Christmas Market

This year’s Wrexham Victorian Christmas Market is expected to be bigger and better than before, with around 100 stalls and Victorian-themed rides and entertainment. The market is held in the picturesque town centre, and local producers will be there selling some delicious Welsh treats from cakes to beers. You can also do a bit of Christmas shopping, as there will be stalls selling toys, clothes, jewellery, accessories, books, crafts, Christmas decorations and more.

When is the Victorian Christmas Market? Thursday 6th December, 12pm to 8pm.

Do I need a ticket? No, the event is free.

Old Colwyn Christmas Market

Join the festive fun at Old Colwyn Christmas Market in Conwy in December. There will be over 40 stalls, packed with a plethora of quality Christmas gifts, homewares, tasty food, drinks, jewellery and more. The stall holders are from North Wales, and most products and crafts you’ll find are handmade, making this market a great opportunity to support local artists and craftspeople.

When is the Old Colwyn Christmas Market? Saturday 15th December and Sunday 16th December, 12pm to 6pm.

Do I need a ticket? No, the event is free.
