Abersoch Sailing School

Abersoch Sailing School is run by Andrew and Danielle Johnson and is a fully RYA and AALA training centre based on the main beach at Abersoch on the Llyn Peninsula. You can book in for one or two and a half hour lessons, starting off with theory and drills before heading into the water. Hour lessons are priced at £50 and two and a half at £85. These starter lessons are perfect for people on holiday who don’t want to try a full course, though courses are available too, priced at £230 per person.

Colwyn Bay Watersports

Colwyn Bay Watersports offer all sorts of activities from sailing to windsurfing, to stand up paddleboarding. If you have never tried any of them before, it is an excellent place to start. Their sailing taster sessions are just £25 and last about two and a half hours. Buoyancy aids and wetsuits are provided, you just have to bring your enthusiasm! The sessions start with a demo on land to learn the basic skills before you hit the water. There are also sailing tasters tailored to kids so the whole family can get involved.

Conwy Yacht Charter

If you don’t fancy trying sailing yourself, but want to get out in a stunning boat to sail along the North Wales coast looking at the gorgeous Welsh scenery and spot some marine life, then you can join Conwy Yacht Charter for a day sail. The trips do depend on the tides, and refreshments on the yacht are sometimes provided, depending on the length of the journey. Conwy Yacht Charter offers bespoke experience, so whether your sailing trip is with family and friends for a special occasion, your trip will be tailored to suit you.

Boom Yacht Charter

Based in Conwy, Boom provides several different types of sailing activities, but for beginners, the place to start is with a taster day. A taster day will include familiarising yourself with the boat on land followed by a few hours on the water. You can learn the basics of sailing and have a go at sail handling and helming (steering). The session is great for people who are new to sailing and may want to try it as a hobby when staying at their North Wales holiday homes. Prices start from £65 per person.

Horizon Sailing

Horizon Sailing is based at Conwy Marina and encourages people of all ages to enjoy the experience of sailing a yacht. Beginners can start with a Taster Experience, which is a trip lasting three to four hours in Conwy Bay, and the whole experience takes the entire day so you can learn all about the yacht, enjoy refreshments and try your hand at sailing. Make sure you have clothing suitable for being outdoors that will keep you warm for hours spent on the boat.
