After what felt like the longest January in existence, we are all happy to start February half-term next week, which also includes Pancake Day and Valentine’s Day! We can shake off the cobwebs of school off and head off to Wales for a fun-filled holiday with plenty of activities to entertain.
For those staying at our Towyn or Prestatyn holiday parks next week, we have put together some great events and activities happening at a variety of venues in North Wales, including information about tickets and times. We hope you have a great week!
GreenWood Forest Park
GreenWood Forest Park has been voted one of Wales’ top attractions, and the theme park in Snowdonia is a must-see family attraction for people who love an adventure on their holidays. The Green Dragon Roller Coaster and SolarSplash rides are still closed, but the Enchanted Wood Barn is still open, and perfect for rainy days!
Throughout February half term, there are daily activities taking place at GreenWood Forest Park. From 10am to 5.30pm between Saturday, 10th February and Friday, 23rd February, you can go on a Tree Name Trail, a free event included in the admission charge to the Park. Also taking place daily through half term from 12pm to 4pm is Nader’s Pyroart workshops, at an extra charge.
Between 11am and 4pm on Saturday 10th, Sunday 11th and Saturday, 17th February you can join in the Crafty Bugwug Crafts, using nature for your materials. Visit greenwoodforestpark.co.uk for more information about the events taking place during your holiday.
Bodnant Garden is one of the most remarkable gardens in Britain (find out more about the top attraction here) and it is a great place to head to for a day out during half-term, with several family-friendly events taking place during the week.
Follow the ribbons around the garden on the Fairy House Trail to find as many fairy houses as you can! This activity takes place daily throughout half-term from Saturday, 10th February from 10am to 3.30pm. The event is free, though admission charges to the garden still apply. Remember suitable clothing and footwear for being outdoors.
You can make your mark at Bodnant Garden with helping to plant snowdrops! Taking place throughout the half-term week starting Monday, 12th February between 11am and 1pm, this gardening activity is sure to be a lot of fun for kids with green fingers who don’t mind getting a little muddy!
After you have planted snowdrops and found lots of fairy houses, you can make your own Snowdrop Fairy! From Monday 12th February to Friday 16th February between 12am and 2pm, you can join in the crafty activity of making a fairy at the Old Mill. The event is free but standard admission charges to the garden apply.
RSPB Conwy is a wetland nature reserve located on the east bank of the Conwy estuary and is a great starting point for getting kids into nature. The reserve holds activity days throughout the year where kids can have fun and be educated about the wildlife and nature around them.
A Furry Friends Quiz Trail takes place every day during half term and gives kids the chance to learn more about the creatures who make their home at Conwy.
On Tuesday 13th February, 1pm-3pm, Wildlife Lego takes place for 6 to 14-year-olds. For children who love Lego, the workshop allows kids to create wildlife creatures from Lego, then make an animated video on iPads. An exploration of the reserve’s habitats will also take place. Tickets £12 for Wildlife Explorers, non-members £15. Booking essential.
On Thursday 15th February, 2pm-3.30pm, you can come and have a go at pond dipping to see what wonderful creatures are found in the water. Tickets are £1 for Wildlife Explorers, £2 for non-members.
Stop by RSPB Conwy on Friday 16th February between 11am to 3pm for Free Play Friday. Aimed at children aged three to eight years, the free event has loads of stuff to play with like chalk, hoops and den building tools! Be aware the event is weather dependent.
Plas Newydd House and Gardens
On the shores of the Menai Strait and surrounded by beautiful scenery the elegant Plas Newydd House and Gardens in Anglesey is a great place to go for a day out during half term to explore the house and garden, and several family-friendly events are also taking place.
Join the Red Squirrel Rangers for a walk around the garden to learn more about the resident squirrels – you might even catch a glimpse of the rusty-red creatures in the trees. The talks and walks are daily through half term between 11.30am to 12.15pm and a later one at 1.30pm to 4.15pm.
Plas Newydd is celebrating Mud Week between Monday, 12th February and Friday, 16th February from 12pm to 3pm. Bring suitable footwear, towels and clothing for the weather and playing in the mud. There will be mud painting, mud pie making and even a barefoot challenge! Best of all, the event is free!
