The golf courses in North Wales are diverse in both the challenge you’ll face and the scenery you’ll be surrounded by. One of the biggest competitions of the match will be trying to keep your eyes on the ball, rather than the stunning landscape. The parks vary from rugged clifftop courses with fresh sea air to health lands and holes dominated by ancient castles. Whether you are a well-practiced professional or are just looking for a fun way to spend a couple of hours during your holiday, there is a course suitable for all abilities and time-frames, here are some of our favourites in North Wales.
Vale of Llangollen Golf Club
The tranquillity of the Vale of Llangollen Golf Club is likely to calm even the most competitive of visitors. It is set amongst the captivating banks of the River Dee and the famous rolling Welsh hills. The high-standard golf course is well-kept and has been awarded Gold Status by the HSBC ranking system, making it a favourite amongst locals and visitors alike. The course is a standard scratch of 73, and each hole offers an equally beautiful setting to enjoy.
Porthmadog Golf Club
Situated just three miles from the stunning harbour town of Porthmadog is a golf course with one of the most scenic views in the area. The course boasts fantastic views of the estuaries and coast, with holes varying in difficulty and terrain. The course consists of a front nine, which is quite flat but still has its challenges and a back nine, which consists of undulating sand dunes and blind holes – making for a trialling game!
Padeswood and Buckley Golf Club
A warm welcome greets you at the Padeswood and Buckley Golf Club, with friendly members and helpful staff you’ll be made to feel at ease. The quality greens and fairways at the club are surrounded by the Clywdian countryside and is carved by the river Alyn. 11 out of 13 holes have water in the play, with stunning lakes and streams dotted all over the course. After your fun day of golf, why not head to the restaurant for a bite to eat? All meals are made fresh, with the finest locally sourced Welsh ingredients.
North Wales Golf Club
North Wales has an abundance of beautiful views, yet the Golf Club in Llandudno has some of the best! With the Conwy estuary, sea views and the Snowdonia Mountain range across the horizon, your eyes are spoilt. The course is known to be one of the driest in the region, regardless of its water facing position, there has been an excess of money spent to ensure it is playable all year around. So, the only weather you’ll be contending with is the sea winds.
Bull Bay Golf Club
The hidden gem of Bull Bay Golf Club is more than worth a visit while you’re in the area. Located on the stunning island of Anglesey, you’ll enjoy panoramic views while playing your game. The course varies from valleys, rocky outcrops, fairways and well-maintained greens. To refuel after your game and the chance to enjoy the views a little longer, head to the café for a quick bite to eat.
All the courses mentioned above encourage golfing clothing to be worn on the course and smart/casual in the clubhouse.
