Although Christmas may seem quite some time away, it will soon be upon us, and many of the attractions in North Wales are already preparing and gearing up for the festive season. One of the highlights during the festive period is the special and captivating Santa’s Trains in North Wales. The popularity of these train rides amongst adults and children alike mean the tickets sell out fast and as they’re already on sale, we thought you should know exactly what the rides will entail, so you can think about booking one of these magical journeys this Christmas!
Bala Lake Railway
The largest natural lake in Wales, Bala Lake is not only known for its mirror-like waters and stunning surroundings, but it is also one of Santa’s top stop-off points during the busy festive season. The historic steam train will boast a ‘Christmassy’ feel with all its decorations, and you can climb aboard it at the Llanuwchllyn Station to visit Santa’s grotto. Children will then get the chance to meet Santa himself and get a special Christmas present.

Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway
Santa’s Train is a firm favourite amongst visitors and locals, known as a great and memorable day out for all the family. During the Welshpool & Llanfair Light steam train journey, the children in your group will receive a warm welcome from Santa who will also have a Christmas gift in his bag for them. The parents and family members don’t go without a treat here though, as Santa’s helpers will be on hand supplying adults with a warm glass of mulled wine and a traditional mince pie to really get you all in the festive spirit. The train journey lasts around 45-minutes, giving you enough time to enjoy the views too! If you are still yet to finish your Christmas shopping, the souvenirs on sale after your train journey may be just the Christmas gift you were looking for!

Santa’s train will take you and your family from Llangollen Station to Carrog, the scenic journey will last approximately an hour and a half and will be full of festive cheer! Children will receive a gift from Santa, and the adults aboard will even be given a mince pie and a warm Christmas beverage from the elves.
