Welsh cheeses that are perfect at Christmas time

We love the festive period here at Lyons, and one of the main reasons is because we get to eat all of the delicious food that’s laid on by friends and family. I personally can’t wait to sit in front of the fire on Boxing day with delicious left-over meats, bubble and squeak and pickles and of course the obligatory cheeseboard!Welsh cheese is some of the finest you can get and all the cheeses below are not too far from our North Wales caravan parks, so why not pick some up for yourself or a loved one and indulge in your own Welsh cheeseboard this Christmas? Caws Gorau Glas This soft blue cheese is made from cows milk that comes from nearby Anglesey and way back in 2003 was one of the country’s most expensive cheeses available on the market.It’s made at Caws Gorau Glas Farm in Dwyran, Anglesey and has been awarded the True Taste Producer of the Year with its Caws Gorau Glas twice, back in 2005 and 2006. Head to Caws Gorau Glas farm, Dwyran, Anglesey, LL61 6BZ to get your hands on this delicious cheese, for a strange yet delicious snack smear on to a dark chocolate digestive… trust us! Ruby Mist This delightful range of cheddars are seen in some of the finest restaurants in the country as well as peoples cheese on toast all over the nation and with a host of awards under their belt it’s no wonder why.Ruby Mist is created by the Snowdonia Cheese Company who opened their doors in 2001 with the goal of producing a luxurious selection of cheeses and 15 years later they have well and truly succeeded. You can get your hands on this cheese at a variety of stores across the country or if you are in town stop by A L & R O Jones in Llanrwst. Welsh Slate Cavern Aged Cheddar South Caernarfon Creameries have created a specially aged cheddar and when we mean special we mean they have matured it deep below the surface in the Llechwedd Slate Caverns in Blaenau Ffestiniog.Based in Pwllheli, Souther Caernarfon Creameries use milk from their very happy cows who spend their days roaming and grazing on the farms open pastures, which shows in their cheese, they have picked up numerous awards from the International Cheese Awards, British Cheese Awards, Global Cheese Awards and World Cheese Awards.
