Five of the best farm shops in North Wales

Farm shops are plentiful across Wales, offering a selection of the very best food and drink you can both sample and take home. They showcase only the best produce from the surrounding local area, with many of the items even being produced on site! Here’s five great farm shops you can visit near our North Wales caravan parks, offering plenty of great gifts and souvenirs of your holiday in Wales. Bodnant Welsh Food Centre, Conwy More than three quarters of the stock sold at Bodnant is produced in Wales, with many of the delicious items also produced at the Bodnant Estate itself. The Food Centre even features its own in-house delicatessen, bakery and butchers. Alongside these you can expect to find award-winning cheeses which are made on the premises, as well as fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables. Hawarden Estate Farm Shop, Hawarden Hawarden Estate’s Farm Shop has the main aim of supporting local farmers and their produce. The items on offer, therefore, come completely from the local area, while the meat, including game and rare-breed pork, is sourced from the estate itself. An on-site café also serves a great range of hot food including home-cooked pies and sausages using meat from the estate. Rhug Estate, Denbighshire Home to Lord Newborough, the Rhug Estate is also home to a 6700-acre in-hand organic farm. The farm specialises in slow growing breeds, aiming to produce the very best-tasting produce from them, with their produce now featuring on the menus of more than 20 Michelin-starred restaurants. Their already-excellent reputation has only been boosted by winning numerous awards. This farm shop, which also features a bistro and a takeaway, is definitely well worth a visit. Dolwen Farm Shop, Abergele Dolwen Farm Shop sells a variety of fresh lamb, pork, chicken, beef and homemade sausages produced on this charming family farm near Abergele. They also offer a variety of recipes which you can try out at home with their wide selection of meat products. Chirk Castle Farm Shop, Wrexham Chirk Castle is a beautiful medieval castle built in the 14th century under the reign of King Edward I, one of the many built across North Wales during this time. Its grounds are the perfect setting for its onsite farm shop, which offers, among other items, locally reared lamb, beef, and mushrooms freshly picked from the garden. Image: Steve Fareham, available under Creative Commons
