10 Snowdonia Attractions That Are Open This Winter
As the winter months are drawing closer, you may think that a lot of attractions are closed for the season, but some of Snowdonia’s best attractions are open throughout the winter, so wrap up warm and head outside and visit these 10 attractions which are near our North Wales caravan parks 1 – Inigo Jones Slate Works This attraction is open throughout the winter for self-guided tours of the workshops. It is a great place to discover the history of Snowdonia’s slate and to discover how it has been used over the centuries. It is open 9am – 5pm every day and the last tour is at 4pm. 2 – Snowdonia’s Castles There are seven castles to explore and they are all open daily. Conwy Castle, Caernarfon Castle, Harlech Castle, Criccieth Castle, Castell y Bere, Dolbadarn Castle and Dolwyddelan Castle are all open throughout winter. Get the family together and explore the history of these ancient buildings. 3 – National White Water Centre White water rafting might not sound like the ideal winter activity; however, you will keep nice and warm by wearing wetsuits! The National Water Centre is open throughout winter and can be a great family day out, and especially good for anyone looking to do something a bit different. It is best to call in advance to check water levels and weather conditions, because these can affect this attraction. 4 – Corris Mine Explorers This attraction is perfect for when the weather isn’t looking promising. Corris Mine Explorers takes place underground, so no need to bring your umbrella! As the name suggests, you will have the opportunity to explore an old mine. There are still tools and personal possessions which have been left behind by the last miners to work there. 5 – Go Below Underground Adventures Again, this activity takes place underground, so there is no need to worry about the weather. As well as exploring you will also be ziplining over water, climbing vertical shafts, boating across an underground lake, scaling a waterfall! This is the perfect activity for any adrenaline junkie! 6 – Glasfryn Parc If you prefer to stay above ground, you can still have plenty of fun ay Glasfryn Parc. Have a go-kart race, try your hand at archery or ten pin bowling. During the winter months you can get your skates on as there is also a skating rink. 7 – Coed y Brenin Forest ParkThe forest park is open throughout winter for walking and mountain biking. The visitor centre and café are also open. Don’t worry about bringing your own bike, as there is a bike hiring facility on site. 8 – Portmeirion Village Portmeirion Village is open throughout the season. It has long opening hours (9.30am to 7.30pm for the village and the shops close at 5.30pm. Come rain or shine Portmeirion Village is one of those attractions you simply must visit. 9 – Plas Tan y Bwlch Gardens These gardens are a delight all year round. Just watching the changing seasons can be a real pleasure. Different parts of the gardens are open at varying times throughout winter, so be sure to check. 10 – Piggery PotteryThis attraction is something purely for your little ones. This is a lovely family attraction which is open all year round for some artistic fun! Your little ones can decorate their own pottery pigs, and let their imaginations run wild.
