The singing sensation, who lived just down the road from our Ruthin caravan park, Joe Woolford did not place where he, and the rest of North Wales wanted him and singing partner Jake wanted to at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, but he’s a winner in our eyes! Regardless of the fact that Joe had to suffer a rather disappointing result – Joe and his singing partner Jake Shakeshaft certainly had plenty of support, which many will feel was rightly deserved, given the quality of their song and the way they sung it so well on the night. It was the entrant from the Eastern European country Ukraine who took the surprise win on the night, beating off the pre-show front runners Russia. The singer Jamala sang a heartfelt song about her great-grandmother and her experiences growing up in the Ukraine. The UK duo only carded a lowly 62 points, which sadly was the third lowest score for the contest, with the Ukraine receiving a grand total of 534 points. However, the duo certainly saw a lot of backing from the British public, which did not go unnoticed. A statement after the contest released by Joe and Jake said: “We’ve had the experience of a lifetime performing on such a massive stage in front of so many people, we will cherish the moment forever. The British public selected us to represent them and we gave it our all and hope we made them proud.” Image courtesy of nathevooo/Instagram.
