Prestatyn pub makes the cut for upcoming UK awards

As part of the National Pub & Bar Awards, two local establishments – known for their excellence – have been selected to represent North Wales after being deemed the best of the bunch, to give Wales the best chance possible to win the prestigious award. Many of the guests who enjoy a Prestatyn caravan break will be familiar with the first pub; The Red Lion Inn & Restaurant in Prestatyn. The Red Lion will be joined by The Gaerwen Arms in Gaerwen in Anglesey and both will now go up against a further 92 other participants to scoop the best pub in the region and best pub in the UK awards. The awards, which are prepared, planned and presented through Pub & Bar magazine, will see the successful 94 county winners come together at the National Pub & Bar Awards Grand Final on Tuesday 24th May, at London’s BAFTA theatre. The event will see 12 regional winners crowned, as well as one overall National Pub & Bar of the Year accolade being presented to one triumphant candidate. The landlord of The Red Lion, Gordon Devlin, has been proudly serving patrons for 16 years and has stated how he is very proud following the news that the pub has been chosen to represent the county. When recently speaking about the news, Mr Devlin said: “It’s fantastic that we’ve been nominated,” “It’s a family thing really, and the staff are all like family because they’ve been with us for the best part of 16 years. “It’s a nice reward and it’s very touching. “We do a lot for our community in terms of charity events and we get very good reviews, so it’s nice that none of that is going unnoticed.” Good luck to everyone taking part in the awards, and we’ll be rooting for The Red Lion to bring home some silverware to the area!
