Calls for Euro 2016 fan zones to be set up in North Wales

There have been a number of calls for fan zones to be set up in Wales to enable football fans to gather together and watch Wales as they take part in Euro 2016. Welsh Football Team montage as seen near North Wales caravan holidaysFans are hoping big screens will be erected in towns and cities so that fans can watch Wales take part in their first major tournament in more than 50 years. Fan zones proved to be extremely popular during the Rugby World Cup last year, and Welsh councils and football clubs are now being asked to put on special screenings for the tournament which starts in June. As it currently stands, Wrexham, Bangor and Aberystwyth – the latter of which is just a short distance from our Conwy park – perfect for those of you who will be enjoying one of our North Wales caravan holidays during the summer months and might wish to watch the football in a fan zone.   Speaking about the idea of fan zones, Plaid Cymru Assembly Member Bethan Jenkins said they would be an ideal way to provide an exciting atmosphere for those who don’t wish to travel to France this summer. She said, “The rugby fan zones were a huge success. I think we need to build on that.“We’re taking part in the finals of a major football tournament for the first time since 1958, and the Welsh Government should be at the forefront of efforts to ensure that as many fans as possible can enjoy that experience. The Government could look at setting up fan zones not only in Cardiff but in other areas of Wales.” The Football Association of Wales have had their say on the situation as well, and have come out in support for setting up fans zones across the country. In a statement, they said, “Fan zones provide the chance to enjoy the event, the game and the festival atmosphere, and over the years have proved to be a major success with supporters of all ages.” This is an encouraging message, and who knows, there may be a fan zone set up for you to enjoy the excitement of Euro 2016 when you visit us this coming summer!  Photo courtesy of JUST 4YOU on YouTube, under Creative Commons
