The great North Wales breweries series

When you think of all the attractions and other amenities that North Wales offers its visitors, you think irresistible beaches, wonderful views, and the famous welcoming Welsh people. But when it comes to breweries, how many people know about the four great Welsh breweries that produce an exciting hive of activity, creating some of the finest nectar to pass your lips?The range of bottled beers available from Purple Moose Brewery (Bragdy Mws Piws) in Porthmadog, Wales.Enjoying a pint on a summer’s day is one thing to look forward to when it comes to holidays, so while we’re on the subject, we thought we would feature four of the breweries here in North Wales. We kick off the first of our series with The Purple Moose Brewery. Enjoy! Located in Porthmadog, little over an hour away from our static caravans for sale Conwy, this ’40-Barrel’ micro-brewery resides near the famous mountains of beautiful Snowdonia. Purple Moose began its days brewing on 14th June 2005 offering a one-off special pale ale at 3.5%, stylishly naming it “No.1”.Purple Moose Brewery is a proud member of the Association of Welsh Independent Brewers, established some nine years ago in 2007, originally set up to help promote the beers and brewers of Wales.What products can you try? At present the brewery make five standard beers, both in cask conditioned and bottled formats. In order of alcoholic content, they are; Snowdonia Ale (3.6%), Madog’s Ale (3.7%), Elderflower Ale (4.0%), Glaslyn Ale (4.2%) and Dark Side of the Moose (4.6%). The brewery provides ale drinkers with seasonal specials at certain times of the year too. Awards The awards for each individual ale are extensive and illustrious to say the least! We felt it was only right to showcase some of their well-earned honours. We’ve had to restrict the list to no further back than 2012 are there were too many to list! GLASLYN ALE

If you are keen to see the magic taking place, then Purple Moose offer brewery tours. They are available from Tuesday to Thursday and begin at 12pm, lasting approx. 45mins to an hour. You will be treated to a guided tour that showcases the whole brewing process by one of the Brewers (whenever possible), and you will have the opportunity to ask as many questions as you like. What’s more, you get a FREE glass and tasting at the end of the session.
