Ruthin timber helping to become the secret addition for fine English wine

A boutique English vineyard has called on the services of an unlikely source to assist them in getting a bumper harvest crop this year, in the form of some sturdy Welsh wood near our Ruthin caravan holiday parks.A close up of a bunch of grapes at a vineyard for wine to be drunk at Lyons Holiday ParksLocal timber company Clifford Jones Timber located in Ruthin can now say that not only do their fence posts do a fantastic job at keeping livestock where they should be, they are also awfully effective at supporting grape vines, too! The impending annual grape harvest is almost upon UK vineyards and at the Mystole vineyard in Canterbury, Kent, they have been using Clifford Jones’ fence posts made at the company’s HQ for their five acres of vines over the last 36 months. Due to the erratic British weather we all know too well, the vineyards and their crops realise a later cropping season, meaning that structurally the vines require a bigger helping hand when it comes to being well-held through the autumn months. A healthy vine will reach heights of up to 10 feet (three metres) every year and by the time the vendange or ‘late harvest’ begins, it holds the weight of dozens of bunches of grapes per plant. Ensuring the vines remain in a safe and secure state during growth is essential in the frequent wet and windy weather, so having a fence post of top quality is vital to support the growing grapes. Clifford Jones Timber produces over four million fence posts a year at Ruthin, making them the biggest manufacturer in the UK, so they were the obvious choice! Image: VI under Creative Commons.
