Carol VordermanCarol was, in fact, originally born in Bedford, but the TV personality and ex-mathematical genius on Channel 4’s Countdown, moved to Prestatyn following the separation of her parents just three weeks after her birth. She successfully worked for 26 years on Countdown before taking up a whole host of different presenting roles. Dawn FrenchThe actress and comedienne hails from Holyhead, here in North Wales. French rose to stardom thanks to her popular comedy double act with fellow comedienne Jennifer Saunders in the BBC series French and Saunders. You will also know Dawn from the TV programme The Vicar of Dibley, which was nominated for seven BAFTA Awards. DuffyRemember Duffy? The ‘Mercy’ singer comes from Gwynedd and with an unmistakably powerful voice for such a little lady, she has become recognised for having a distinctive, gravelly sound with soulful tones. Duffy saw her work nominated in Best British Album and Best Female Solo awards categories at the 2009 BRIT awards. Ian RushAnyone who knows football will know, or at least heard of Ian Rush. Forever to be known as Liverpool Football Club legend, the St Asaph-born striker still currently holds Liverpool and Wales’ all-time goal scoring record. Timothy DaltonThe name’s Dolton, Timothy Dalton. The James Bond actor who played the main role in The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill was born in the popular tourist destination of Colwyn Bay. Ian Fraser ‘Lemmy’ KilmisterOne for the older generations here. ‘Lemmy’ is undoubtedly best-known for being the lead vocalist, and bassist of the heavy metal band Motörhead. Originally born in Staffordshire, Lemmy’s family relocated to Anglesey as a child and proudly became an honorary North Walian at an early age. Rhys IfansRhys has starred in a whole host of films such as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and The Amazing Spider Man. But it was his role as Spike, the unkempt lodger in the 1999 film Notting Hill, also starring Hugh Grant, which saw him rise to stardom. Rhys was born in Haverfordwest and raised in Ruthin. Mark HughesReal name, Leslie Mark Hughes, OBE, is the current manager of Premier League football team Stoke City. The prolific Ruabon-born goal scorer also boasts a memorable playing career with some of the world’s best football team, such as Barcelona, Manchester United, and Chelsea. Lisa Scott-LeeIf you loved pop music in the late 1990s then Lisa Scott-Lee will instantly be remembered! Scott-Lee was a member of the hugely popular musical group Steps. Lisa was born in Rhyl.
