Lyons Holiday Parks aimed to rewrite the record books last Sunday, when In conjunction with the 80’s themed day at Lyons Winkups Holiday park, the team from Lyons Holiday Parks officially attempted to successfully topple an existing World record from the Guinness Book of Records.
The official title of the World record – The World’s Largest Cocktail Stick Hedgehog! The current record has been set using two thousand cocktail sticks, and so, to break the record we had to construct the body of the hedgehog, together with facial features, including eyes and a snout, and finishing off the look of the hedgehog using cocktail sticks to form the spines of our new replica furry mammal. The added element needed to allow the cocktail stick spines to count was that they contained at least two different types of food on them, for example, pickled onions, cubes of cheese, and cocktails sausages; all the classics! To ensure they make the cut, and to stand a chance of being crowned with the title, each spine had to remain in place for a minimum of 5 minutes after the hedgehog creation was completed.
In the presence of The Mayor and Mayoress of Towyn, who acted as independent scrutineers to verify all official requirements were met, the team from Lyons Holiday Parks broke the record by 592 cocktails stick, inserting a total of 2,592 into the hedgehog body. Detailed evidence has now been submitted to the Guinness World Record office and we await their official verification that our record attempt is accepted. When speaking about the exciting event, Ben Williams, Marketing Manager for Lyons said: “We’re proud to take part in something as prestigious as a Guinness World Record attempt. This, along with a whole range of other activities, forms a part of our 90th Birthday celebrations; commemorating the 90 years of happy holiday memories that Lyons Holiday Parks have been making since 1925.” Everyone at Lyons Holiday Parks will be celebrating an incredible 90 years of making happy holidays this year and what better way to help celebrate that with a world record attempt that we can all be part of.
